Rudrashtak

1. Namameesh meeshaana nirvana roopam
Vibhum, vyapakam, bramha vedaswaroopam,
Nijam, nirgunam, nirvikalpam , nireeham,
Chidakashamakashavasam bhaje-aham.
O bhagwan Shankar ji, you are in the form of beatitude and veda. You are eternal,omnipresent, destiny, God of the North-east quarter, free from all false attractions, master of all, free from all delusions ,free from all differences, free from all illusions .I salute you. You are free from all differences, free from all desires , you are sentient, you are in the form of the sky, and putting on the sky [not wearing any clothes] I remember you.

2. Nirakarmonkaaramoolam tureeyam,
Giraagyaana goteetameesham gireesham,
Karaalam, mahakaal, kaalam, kripaalam,
Gunagar sansarparam, natoaham.
You have no structure of yourself, you are the base theme of “Omkar” [The sound “O……mmmm”], you are beyond three “Gunas” [satogun, rajogun, tamogun] , you are beyond voice, and knowledge and organs, you are the Master of “Kailash Parvat”[the mountain], you are terrific, you are death of the death, you are kind, you are ocean of all the qualities, you are beyond the universe, you are the prime power , I salute you.

3. Tushaaradri sankash gauram gambheeram,
Manobhoota koti prabha shree shareeram
Sfuranmauli kallolinee chaaru ganga
Lasadbhalabalendu kanthe bhujanga
You are fair colour and great like Himalaya mountain, you are handsome more than billions of “Kaam deo”[the God of beauty], the holy river “Ganga” is having place on your head, the moon of the second day of lunar month has place on your forehead, snakes have been used as garland around your neck.

4. Chalatkundalam, bhroo, sunetram vishaalam,
Prasannananam, neelakantham dayalam,
Mrigadheesha charmambaram mundamalam,
Priyam shankaram sarvanatham bhajami
You are wearing “Kundal” [ ring} in your ears, you have beautiful eyebrows and big eyes, you are happy looking, you are kind, your neck is black, you are wearing undergarments of Lion leather, and garland of skulls. You are beloved of all and master of all, you do welfare of all, I remember you.

5. Prachandam, prakrishtham, pragalbham, paresham
Akhandam, ajam, bhanu koti prakasham
Trayaha shoola nirmoolanam shoolapani
Bhajeaham bhavani patim bhavagamyam
You are violent, you are great, you are full of aura, you are the god, you are unique, you were never born, having light greater than billions of suns, eradicating all the three tragedies [ physical, mental and devine]. You keep “Trishool” in your hand. You are husband of Bhavani .You are available for ones who have holy hearts. I remember you.

6. Kalateeta kalyana kalpantakaari,
Sada saajjanananda data purari
Chidananda sandoha mohapahari
Praseeda praseeda prabho manmathari
You are beyond all the arts, you are welfare of all, you are the great destroyer of the universe. You grant pleasure to gentle persons, you are enemy of “Tripur” [a devil] , you are pleasure, you destroy the false beliefs and delusions, you are enemy of the luxury which deteriorates the holiness of mind. Please be kind to me.

7. Na yavad umanath padaravindam
Bhajamteeha loke pare va naranam
Na tavatsukham shaanti santapa nasham
Praseeda prabho sarvabhootadhivasam
You are husband of “Parvati” [goddess], unless the persons remember you, they don’t get pleasure, peace in this world and other world [heaven etc.], and their miseries are not ended. You live in the heart of every one and all the “Maha Bhoots”[Earth, Sky, Air, Fire and Water]. Be kind to me.

8. Na janami yogam, japan naiva poojam
Natoaham sada sarvada shambhu tubhyam
Jara janma dukhaogha tatapyamanam
Prabho paahi apannamameesha shambho
I don’t know “Yoga”[meditation for control of mind], “Jap” [repeated pronunciation of God’s name], and “Pooja” [worship]. I always salute you. Save me from the miseries originating from birth, oldness and death, I am sad. I salute you.

Rudrashtakamidam proktam viprena hartoshaye
Ye pathanti nara bhaktya, tesham shambhuh praseedati
The scholars have said this “Rudrashtak”, and Bhagvan Shankar pleases and becomes kind to them , who read this.
